Snowy Day{The Simple Woman's Daybook}

For Today, January 29, 2013

Outside my window...the snow is gently falling.  I gasped when I looked out the window because when I went to bed at 11 PM there was nary a speck of snow to be seen.  There is enough on the ground to cover half of Benny's soccer ball in the back yard. There's a little snow drift right outside my back door. I love this day already!

I am thinking...  about how excited our kids are going to be when they peek out their windows this morning.  It's become a ritual with them to see if there is any snow.  They've been waiting for enough to play in.  Wish granted!

I am thankful... for this snow that makes me feel like a child and for the joy that it brings to my children.  Heaven knows I won't be trying to sled down anything at this moment in time, but I will sure enjoy hearing their laughter as they do it.

In the kitchen... This day calls for a hearty soup and chunks of bread fresh from the oven.

I am wearing... jeans, a long-sleeved, black shirt with a blue button down on top.  I'm warm!

I am creating.....clean surfaces.  Seriously, this desk is about to drive me crazy!!!  I don't want things piled up on the breakfast bar so the desk becomes the catch-all.

I am going... to hunker down for the day and light some candles.  I'm going to bake bread this morning.  PWOC was cancelled due to the road conditions.  My first thought was, "bummer" and my second thought was that it must be pretty icky out there if people around here are canceling things.

I am wondering... about tomorrow.  Except I'm not suppose to worry about tomorrow when today has enough trouble of it's own.

I am reading...  still reading Sticky Faith and Taming Your Tongue.  Also, my Bible.  As a church and family we are reading through the New Testament this year.

I am hoping...that I can find some good deals on jeans for my boys who just seem to grow and grow and grow!

I am looking forward to... finding my crochet needles.  I can't find them anywhere!

I am learning... I went to a Stitching Session at the library this past Saturday.  I had a lot of fun and we learned how to make a Barista Coffee Cup Cozy.  It was so easy!  I want to make a few with some leftover yarn I have. It's fun to learn new things.

Around the house... the kids are eating their breakfast.  Benny is whining to go out in the snow but as soon as I put him out there he wants right back in.  Silly dog!  I think he wants the kids to go out with him.

I am pondering... 12 hours.  Some days I just want to hop in the van with the kids and drive the 12 hours it would take to go and visit my family.  We're planning to go in a couple of months and I can't wait!

A favorite quote for today... "Eat a live frog every morning, and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day." ~Mark Twain

One of my favorite things... meeting new people who will one day become friends.  I've learned the importance of observation and to just take a little time to listen to what's going on around me before I jump in.  It may make me appear shy or snobby, but I learn a lot about people this way.   I have allowed myself to get into too many bad friendships because I took a huge leap before I took any time to look.  Sometimes friendships easily happen.  I am most thankful for those easy friendships.

A few plans for the rest of the week... jean shopping, more bed shopping...my boys are going to share a room and they both need new beds.  Since they are very nearly giants, I need to find them beds they can continue to grow in.  I found Oxford Bunk Beds(full size on top and bottom).  They are gorgeous and very sturdy.  They can be separated when they need them to be, but I am not willing to pay nearly two thousand buckaroos for beds.  Maybe my sweet husband can make them?  We will see!

A peek into my day...

This is the cup cozy I made and underneath it is a completed knit and felt project I was working on.  Can you tell that I love color?  Purple is my favorite.
